It is a remarkable location for Agro Care standards: the one in De Lier, still a considerable stone's throw away from the Agro Care headquarters on the Honderdland industrial estate in Maasdijk. The company is 'only' four hectares in size, which makes it much smaller than the usual cultivation companies. 'There is relative calm here', says branch director Ruud van Steekelenburg.
The establishment is completely equipped for the cultivation of one type of tomato: the midi plum truss tomato. With an area of four hectares, the production is large enough to meet the demand of European retail. This more or less gives the De Lier location sole rights within Agro Care. The tomatoes come from the plant all year round, because there is illuminated cultivation as well. Compared to other locations, there is a larger percentage of permanent staff here. During the summer months, that number grows to about thirty.
